Housing Needs and Tips

Housing is always difficult to find in the DC area, particularly for recent graduates, and many of the best housing opportunities are only available by word of mouth. This page is intended to help alumni share housing needs, temporary or long-term housing opportunities (including housesitting), and tips about how to search for housing in the area.

Alumni seeking housing

Updated May 2009

Malcolm Kenton ('08) is looking for housing. He has accepted a job offer from the National Association of Railroad Passengers starting end of this month. Their office is at 900 2nd St. NE in DC, adjacent to Union Station. He is looking for something in the $500-$750 per month range. He is open to roommates (especially other Guilford alums). He would love to live within walking distance of the office in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, but is open to anything that is Metro-accessible. If you have any leads, please contact Malcolm at malcolm@malcolmkenton.info

Rachael Jeffers ('O9) has accepted a paid internship with the Frinds Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) in DC starting in September. She is now in the process of searching for housing in the DC area. While her first choice would be something within the city limits, she is open to any and all suggestions/leads. She will be moving home to New Hampshire for the summer and will continue her search from there. If you have any leads, please contact Rachael at rachaeljeffers@hotmail.com

If you are an alumnus looking for housing, please e-mail dcalumni@guilford.edu and include "Housing" in the subject.

Housing Resources

Many recent graduates find that group housing is an affordable alternative to studio or one-bedroom apartments, and a good way to meet people and make friends. A good place to find leads on group housing is the The Washington City Paper, a weekly publication that comes out on Wednesday afternoons. Most group houses will place an ad and then hold interviews during the weekend, so don't wait too long to call!

Craig's List is another good way to find group or single housing opportunities, and the Washington Post also has listings.
